Thrilling Adventures of Superman -- Episode 25

After having him on episode 14 of my show, Michael Bradley of Thrilling Adventures of Superman was kind enough to invite me to record episode 25 of his show. I had a lot of fun talking about some of Superman's adventures in the Golden Age, I want to thank Michael for having me on his show and I look forward to recording with him again in the future. Things get kicked off with ACTION COMICS #16 where Superman smashes — literally! — a gambling racket. We then move on to the SUPERMAN #2, with the second Superman text story. And finally, we take a look at ACTION COMICS #17, where our hero takes on the challenge of rescuing a stranded steamer and is drawn into a larger plot formed by a very familiar foe!

The mission of the Thrilling Adventures of Superman is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

From Crisis to Crisis Episode 94: March 1992, Part 1

From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast continues it's coverage of Panic in the Sky this week as Jeffrey Taylor and Michael Bailey welcome another special guest to the show!  Charlie Niemeyer from Superman in the Bronze Age (hey, that's me!) jumps into a time machine and travels forward to the Post Crisis era to help the boys talk about the first two books with a March 1992 cover date. In Superman: The Man of Steel #9 a familiar looking ship attacks Metropolis and Superman finds out who the ultimate enemy is.  In Superman #65 the Man of Steel becomes proactive against the threat approaching Earth and gathers together a team of heroes to deal with it.  The “terrible” trio also discusses a handful of episodes of the Adventures of Superboy television series and what else was going on in the world while these books were on the stands.

You get the episode 3 ways: The RSS Feed, the iTunes link or you can download it directly here.

I want to thank Jeffrey and Michael for allowing me onto the show.  I had a lot of fun recording with them and talking about this fun time for Superman fans.

RIP Jackie Cooper (aka Perry White)

Jackie Cooper, known to Superman fans everywhere as Perry White in all 4 of the Christopher Reeve Superman films, passed away yesterday at the age of 88 due to a sudden bout of illness.  As a child actor, Cooper also starred in Our Gang,  was nominated for an Academy Award at age 9 for his role in Skippy (the youngest actor to ever be nominated) and directed several episodes of the Superboy TV show from 1988-1992.

RIP Jackie.  I'll never call you "Sugar."

Superman in the Bronze Age Episode 20 -- April 1972

What the..? Already? Yes, episode 20 is here! What you will hear about: Superman vs. Terra-Man Round 2, the discovery of the Fortress of Solitude, Clark Kent's #1 Fan and Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse. What you won't hear about: Superman renouncing his US citizenship, the death of Osama Bin Laden and my favorite episode of Snorks. Why? This is a podcast about Superman in the Bronze Age, not today, Osama Bin Ladin was still alive when I recorded this episode, and I can no longer sit through a full episode of Snorks like I could when I was a kid.
