Episode 39 -- March 1973

Another new release during the holidays?  Yep, that's how devoted we are to you, our fans!  This time out, we go back to March 1973 to see Superman take on a screaming building, meet the Marigold Twins and meet the Bronze Age Kaman Stowell (nowhere near as cool as the one from Earth-Prime).  Plus, we learn the secret origin of Christopher Chance.  There are also the customary tangents, ads and elsewhere in the DC Multiverse.

Episode 38 -- Christmas Special #2

Ah!  The holiday season!  Chestnuts roasting, family gathering, sugarplums dancing, gift giving, Jack Frost nipping and podcast listening.  And like last year, we take a break from the ordinary to bring you a special episode full of holiday cheer!  The year is 2979, and Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes go out in search of that special star from the first Christmas but find a different aspect of Christmas instead (how's that for being vague?).  So sit back, relax and enjoy another Christmas in the Bronze Age.

Superman in the Bronze Age Episode 32 -- September 1972

According to my watch, it's time for another thrilling episode of Superman in the Bronze Age.  This time, we have a somewhat controversial ending to the Morgan Edge Clone Saga (no hoodies here, just hoods), Superman fights a Transformers more than a decade before they were cool, then puts a bunch of people in danger.  Next, he scares a crippled girl enough that she is able to walk and, in the Action backup, Metamorpho does his part for world peace.  Plus, ads and Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse.

Back to the Bins Presents: Superman!

Disenfranchised by the modern incarnation of his all-time favorite comic book hero, podcaster Scott Gardner of Two True Freaks now plies the time-stream in a never-ending quest to re-discover and re-connect with that unique brand of fun and excitement that can only truly be found in good ol' fashioned randomly-selected Superman back issues!!  Journey with him now... back... Back To The Bins!!

This is not Scott's first episode of Back to the Bins, but it is the first episode of this new version of the show.  Beginning with this episode, Scott is taking a look at classic Superman comics.  Now, I'm posting this because the first story he is looking at is a Bronze Age retelling of the Origin of Superman from "The Amazing World of Superman" which was specially created for one of the first Superman celebrations in Metropolis, IL.  I won't be getting to this story for several episodes, but I wanted to point everyone to what I'm sure will prove to be a different take on this classic story.  Also, be sure to check out future episodes for more Superman goodness.  I also encourage you to check out the other great shows featuring the Two True Freaks brand.

You can follow the show on Itunes or via it's RSS Feed.  You can also download the episode directly here.

MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS!!

Well, as you may have heard last episode, the show now has a sponsor in Discount Comic Book Service and it's affiliate sites: InStockTrades and MyDigitalComics.  This is pretty exciting as it now allows me to afford to upgrade to better host site for this show and a new site!  What does that mean for you?  Not much, but there will be some changes.  There is now a new RSS Feed and a new iTunes link.  I will continue to post the next few new episodes to both the old feeds and the new feeds, but I do ask that if you wish to subscribe to the show, please make sure to update your subscriptions. I plan to stop adding to the old feeds as of the end of October.

I won't be keeping this site around forever either, but until I learn enough about html to customize the new site, I will continue to post updates here as well.

This is an exciting time for the show with upgrades and upcoming guests all leading up to the show's 1 year anniversary.  Stay tuned...

In this one episode, the Newsboy Legion returns with a +1, we meet the Outsiders (no, not Batman's friends), the Whiz Wagon, Morgan Edge, Inter-Gang, WGBS, the Mountain of Judgement, the Hairies, a subtle Beatles reference and the first appearance of a big baddie, and most of that is in just the first issue!

Thrilling Adventures of Superman -- Episode 25

After having him on episode 14 of my show, Michael Bradley of Thrilling Adventures of Superman was kind enough to invite me to record episode 25 of his show. I had a lot of fun talking about some of Superman's adventures in the Golden Age, I want to thank Michael for having me on his show and I look forward to recording with him again in the future. Things get kicked off with ACTION COMICS #16 where Superman smashes — literally! — a gambling racket. We then move on to the SUPERMAN #2, with the second Superman text story. And finally, we take a look at ACTION COMICS #17, where our hero takes on the challenge of rescuing a stranded steamer and is drawn into a larger plot formed by a very familiar foe!

The mission of the Thrilling Adventures of Superman is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

Click here to see the post at GreatKrypton.com, the site’s home base, for a handful of images related to the episode, additional notes and links. And thanks again to Mr. Bradley!

From Crisis to Crisis Episode 94: March 1992, Part 1

From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast continues it's coverage of Panic in the Sky this week as Jeffrey Taylor and Michael Bailey welcome another special guest to the show!  Charlie Niemeyer from Superman in the Bronze Age (hey, that's me!) jumps into a time machine and travels forward to the Post Crisis era to help the boys talk about the first two books with a March 1992 cover date. In Superman: The Man of Steel #9 a familiar looking ship attacks Metropolis and Superman finds out who the ultimate enemy is.  In Superman #65 the Man of Steel becomes proactive against the threat approaching Earth and gathers together a team of heroes to deal with it.  The “terrible” trio also discusses a handful of episodes of the Adventures of Superboy television series and what else was going on in the world while these books were on the stands.

You get the episode 3 ways: The RSS Feed, the iTunes link or you can download it directly here.

I want to thank Jeffrey and Michael for allowing me onto the show.  I had a lot of fun recording with them and talking about this fun time for Superman fans.

RIP Jackie Cooper (aka Perry White)

Jackie Cooper, known to Superman fans everywhere as Perry White in all 4 of the Christopher Reeve Superman films, passed away yesterday at the age of 88 due to a sudden bout of illness.  As a child actor, Cooper also starred in Our Gang,  was nominated for an Academy Award at age 9 for his role in Skippy (the youngest actor to ever be nominated) and directed several episodes of the Superboy TV show from 1988-1992.

RIP Jackie.  I'll never call you "Sugar."

Superman in the Bronze Age Episode 20 -- April 1972

What the..? Already? Yes, episode 20 is here! What you will hear about: Superman vs. Terra-Man Round 2, the discovery of the Fortress of Solitude, Clark Kent's #1 Fan and Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse. What you won't hear about: Superman renouncing his US citizenship, the death of Osama Bin Laden and my favorite episode of Snorks. Why? This is a podcast about Superman in the Bronze Age, not today, Osama Bin Ladin was still alive when I recorded this episode, and I can no longer sit through a full episode of Snorks like I could when I was a kid.
